The Founder

Rev. Grace Manjau (popularly known as Evangelist Mama Mwai) gave her life to Jesus Christ at the age of 14 years and she immediately began to witness to the lost. Since then, she has tirelessly worked to lead people into the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. She is the Founder of Charisma Ministries Inc., an outreach ministry. She is also the Founder of Women Ministers Fellowship International – Africa Chapter.

When she was in Singapore studying Christian leadership, she had a dream in which she saw herself feeding very poor children, some of whom were residing in the streets.

Once she was back in Nairobi, still reminiscing on her dream, she developed an interest in the less fortunate in the city. She was sad to realize that although Nairobi was a great urban center, replete with tall buildings, beautiful parks and Five Star hotels, there were still so many people who could not even afford one meal per day.

Some of these families have up to five children each and live in tiny, dilapidated shacks. Their tender aged children are inducted into the world under abject circumstances. They end up developing a strong sense of bitterness and a lack of confidence that denies them a chance to be the great people that God destined them to be.

Together with a team from Charisma Ministries, Evangelist Mama Mwai decided to take the first step by starting a slum feeding program in many parts of Nairobi. This program was later renamed Charisma Tumaini Children Centre. After a careful needs analysis, the Sinai slum, a conglomeration of shacks built under the high voltage electricity lines that serve Nairobi's industrial area, was considered the neediest of the needy in Nairobi.

Rev Grace Manjau is married to Peter Manjau. Together they have four children; Samuel Mwai, a business man in the United Kingdom; David Kimani, currently studying and living in USA; Sondra Wambui (USA) and Angela Njoki who is currently working in Kenya.
