ABOUT US | Our VISION | OUR Mission | Board of directors

Tumaini Children’s Centre is a need-based organization. From it’s inception to it’s current status, under the leadership of Reverend Grace Manjau, the program is committed to improving the day to day livelihoods of the children of Sinai, one of Nairobi’s poorest slums.

The predicament facing children in Sinai can generally be described as abject poverty, disease and hopelessness. Some of the children have been orphaned by the HIV pandemic, road and industrial accidents among other misfortunes. Others are from single parent families who are overwhelmed by the onerous obligation of catering for them due to lack of, or insufficient means of, sustenance.

The majority of people in Kenya live on less than a dollar per day. At Sinai, there are days, and they are many, when people sleep hungry. Although these people are willing to work and provide for their families, acute shortage of job opportunities hinders the achievement of their dreams. For those who are lucky to get casual labor, the remuneration is extremely inadequate. Others have extremely large families (with up to 7 children on average aged under ten years). There also others who are weighed down by the burden of taking care of their dead relatives’ children in addition to their own. Others come from parents who, due to poverty and extreme hardships, are busy drowning their sorrows by wallowing into consumption of cheap liquor and doing drugs.

Realizing that the children hardly had any food at home after school, Charisma Ministries introduced a daily feeding program in 2006. Every child at the Centre gets at least one meal every school day.
